I have been teaching English for seven years. I spent my first two years teaching high school, and have spent the last five years teaching eighth grade. I began teaching a little later than most, starting my career at 35, because I chose to be a stay at home mom while my own children were small.
I entered this profession because I believe teachers can make a difference. Though this age is sometimes seen as a challenging one, my heart is with them. During middle school, students are striving for independence while still trying to figure out where they fit into this world. As one of their many teachers, I try to give them as much independence as possible while guiding them in the learning process. My goal is to balance their learning with a blend of guided instruction, independent work, partner/group activities, and class discussions all while letting students feel safe to express themselves.
