We aim to ignite a love of reading in our students by immersing them in a multimodal exploration of an exciting, newly released novel written by an author who is near and dear to our community. YA Author Carrie Arcos is a National Book Award Finalist and former teacher at our school who has agreed to be a part of our students' learning by leading discussions on character development, theme, writing style and process. She will also be available for a Meet and Greet and will conduct a Q and A session for our amazing students. But, wait! There's more! Not only will our students have the thrill of reading a gripping work of Sci-fi historical fiction, they will learn from the author herself, and have the chance to watch the upcoming movie based on the book! According to School Library Journal, Skywatchers is "an expertly crafted genre mash-up of sci-fi, historical fiction, and mystery, with a dash of thriller that will keep readers racing towards the end. A unique and original tale that will appeal to a wide variety of teens." We couldn't agree more. We believe ALL of our students will respond to this book and we can't wait! As Librarian, I will lead students in their research of The Cold War and the UFO phenomenon of the time period to provide context for the setting of the book. From there, star English teacher, Mrs. Zeko, will expertly facilitate the class novel study, as she is known to do. We are both so excited to teach this novel! We know that our enthusiasm will not be lost on our wonderful students! Please consider helping fund this engaging learning experience!
