"Please put your chair on all four legs." "Ugh, it's a habit I'm sorry." This dialogue can be heard in several of my high school classes almost everyday. Several students are in the habit of leaning back on their chairs with only two legs on the ground, and this worries me. I believe that if I can get four wobble chairs in my classroom, those students would be able to focus on their work and they would stay safe.
Flexible seating is the "new classroom" of today. Students are no longer in strict rows, but rather they are put in pairs of collaboration. I think flexible seating should also pertain to the high school classroom because attention disorders do not go away. Students in my classroom still need that movement to focus, and many of them don't even realize they are doing until they get told to put their chair on all four legs. I want my students to be able to cope with their movement, and still be able to learn in a safe environment.
