Managing emotions is key to academic success and overall success in life. My students have faced adversity in their lives that make regulating their emotions hard. They will benefit greatly having a safe space where they can feel secure and comfortable. I am asking for bean bags to create a cool down area for students who are feeling anxious or frustrated. I have asked for calming toys; putty, dough, stress balls and fidgets for them to use to help calm their bodies and focus their minds.
Sensory fidget tools helps students refocus and re-engage in rational thought, and help to empower them. Once students are calm and ready to learn, I work with them in classrooms, small groups, and individually. I have included requests for therapeutic activity books to help engage them in learning skills to process their thoughts and emotional reactions. I have asked for therapy story books to help them develop their understanding of how their emotions affect.
