Seventh and eighth grade students use interactive composition notebooks over the school year to jot down ideas, take notes over different types of writing, make lists, copy and apply terms to readings, and answer writing prompts. But most of all, students use interactive notebooks to find and develop their writing voice! By having the notebook, students will be able to express themselves the way they want to. As we have been quarantined, personal writing tasks have fallen off in favor of typing. I have discovered my students tend to type how they text. My students need the notebook to develop as writers, and this is one way that I can provide that for them. Students will receive the notebooks, along with the additional supplies in class. By having the storage organizers, it will provide a safe place for the students to store their writing notebook, so it isn't lost or destroyed. We will use the notebooks in various lessons during the school year as we focus on narrative, argumentative and research writing. Before each type of writing is taught, students will have the notebook to take down notes over the writing, which will benefit them as a take home tool if we are quarantined or they are at home due to unforeseen circumstances.
