It is becoming vividly apparent that my students, like many others, were not able to learn to their fullest potential during the COVID shut down, and through distance learning. Many of my third grade students haven't been in a class room since first grade, and even then, they lost the last quarter of in person instruction during the initial shutdown. As a result, students have fallen behind in most subjects.
For my classroom, the the impact from the shutdown is most visible in my students math abilities and social emotional skills/well being. Students missed out on the opportunities to learn to work together, and to use hands- on materials through games and science manipulatives.
The board games, outdoor play equipment, and science kits will help to develop and refine my students social skills and math/financial literacy skills, while hitting on some of our key Nevada Academic Content Standards. Some of the content standards that will be reinforced are: 3NBT.A.2, 3.OA.D.8, 3LS-4.1, 3-5_ETS1_3, SS.3.26 and SS.3.27, and 4.IC.3.1.
