My students need a choice in what they read! All too often we tell students what they need to read and then drag them through it. I want my students to have personal choice in what they read. This unit, The Story of Me, allows them to choose the person they want to know more about. With a diverse student population, my students want to see themselves reflected in the curriculum. By choosing their own person of study for this unit they will be invested in reading and writing more! This will lead to them writing about themselves and their own life through a critical lens.
The books provided will give my students the skills they need to read and write for life beyond high school. They want to see their own diversity reflected in the curriculum we study each day.
