As a new School Counselor, I want to build a comprehensive program for my elementary school. The books will help my students coping with different things in their lives... anxiety, grief, loss, anger, and many other things that affect students. "The Invisible String" can help students dealing with loss. "Dare!, Tough!, and Mean!" are all about different aspects of a bullying situation and will be very usual in teaching students about how to deal with a bully and how to be an Upstander. I chose many different books so I can have a wide variety of resources for students. I have many students visit me throughout the day for individual and group counseling. I added some stress relievers such as the timer, sand tray, and brain teasers to help my students calm themselves and take their minds off of what has them so stressed out or angry. I also want to make sure students have a wide variety of incentives. I added games such as Uno and the wooden toppling to use to get to know students and for social skills activities. I have incentives such as the erasers, bendy pencils, bracelets and assortment of small toys to help motivate students to be successful in the counseling classroom. Students with behavior plans will also be able to receive these awards and have something to work towards. My Students of the Month will receive the Student of the Month pencils. I am very excited for my first year and many more years to come!
