We begin Tech Night by reading the story of the Hare and Tortoise. Then we play the Hare and Tortoise board game in small groups. Afterward, collaborating in their game groups, each student makes an animal out of Playdoh and connects it to the computer using alligator clips and their Makey Makey.
Finally, they play the game again (in Scratch this time), using their Playdoh animals and the Makey Makey to transform a board game into a fun, 3-D coding experience.
It's a process that everyone enjoys, and everyone is involved from the beginning to the end. Tech nights are an excellent way to build and enrich the school and neighborhood community.
