My students will be using the materials obtained from this project to read and gain knowledge so that they can compete at the County level of the Battle of the Books competition. Several of these students competed at the school level last year but never had the opportunity to compete with other schools. This would be an amazing opportunity for them all!
Our Battle of the Books club is simply a place where students are given the opportunity to read spectacular pieces of literature to promote a love of reading! Students will also have to complete 10 questions from each of the books that they read to show an understanding of their reading. The incentive for students also includes a healthy competition with other students around the county answering questions about the books they've read. These students have never been a position to be able to participate in something like this and it would really open their eyes to the many genres of reading as well as working as a team for a common goal.
