Many of the students I teach have difficulty with attention and enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. During the literacy block they are learning to read intensely, finding details to help make inferences, and learning to love reading. During the math block they are learning new math concepts and establishing a deeper number sense that is essential for future success. Flexible and comfortable seating will not only spark an interest in learning, but will help them stay focused. The bean bag chairs will be an excellent choice to assist children to read for longer periods of time. The stools will be used at the guided reading and math table, and will help the students stay focus on the given explicit instruction. The seat cushions will help students find a spot in the room to focus on individual assignments or work cooperatively in small groups. The carpets will be used for whole group reading workshop time and math circle time. They will also be used for independent, small group work, and will be the hub of the room.
