"I'm sorry, but your class will have to wait until 'testing, Benchmarks, class projects, regular classrooms' (ad nauseum) are finished using the Chromebooks". This is what I am faced with on a weekly basis. I hope to build a small Special Education Lab class size set of Chromebooks so my students don't have to wait on other classes to finish their projects. These Chromebooks will even travel with them to their general education classrooms if needed. They can start assignments in the classroom and then continue in Lab if they need more individualized, explicit help. The general education teachers frequently give quizzes using the Chromebooks, and my students often need extended time or help to complete the quizzes. With a set of Chromebooks dedicated to the lab my students can complete the quizzes in lab and get the individualized help they need to finish the test. If they happen to be absent the day of a quiz or test they can make it up in lab; again with direct, explicit help if needed. The push in Special Education now is to keep these students in the regular classroom doing the regular assignments, with accommodations, as much as possible. With a small lab set of Chromebooks this can be more easily accomplished.
