A read aloud is embedded into our daily routine beginning on the first day of school. From a teacher's perspective, reading to my students gives me the opportunity to stop when needed and explain rhetorical or literary devices they wouldn't get on their own.
From a student's perspective, a read aloud shows my students that they can understand a book that may be too hard for them to decode themselves. A sense of gratification is created when finishing a book whether they are below, at, or above grade level in reading.
I chose these fictional texts because they are rich in historical events and are culturally relevant leading to courageous conversations within our classroom. Please help me with providing an unforgettable reading experience for my students. With your help they will be able to use their imagination and dive into a book with hopes that the texts will change the way they see reading forever.
