Students in an early childhood class show what they learn during whole group or small group instruction through hands on experiences. The camera and printer will allow the teachers in the classroom to snap photos of the work the students do during center time as they master the various skills in Pre-K. When a student creates and extends a pattern while "playing" at the math station a picture can be snapped and the parents will be able to see how proud the student is of his/her accomplishment. The same is true in the alphabet
The funding of this project will allow me to show students and parents mastery of Pre-K skills through pictures not paper pencil activities. Being able to have the printer in the classroom along with paper and ink will allow the teacher to print the picture immediately and provide instant feedback to the students. Kids love to see pictures of themselves and their peers and will work extra hard to show off their skills in order to get their pictures taken.
The classroom camera will also provide the opportunity to take pictures throughout the year and on field trips to document the year from start to finish. At the end of the year the pictures can be burned to a CD and given to each child as a special memory from their first year in "Big Kid School." Even though the camera is being requested by one teacher there are three other Pre-K classes that will be able to benefit from this much needed resource.
