My students are unique and creative thinkers, and they need a variety of ways to express their learning.
According to a recent study, students pursuing vocational training or college level coursework post-high school require the same level of reading comprehension and written expresssion.
The Kindle Fires that I chose will help students advance in the following ways:
They will enhance their writing skills, using programs such as Khan Academy, Turnitin.com, and NoRedInk. They will increase their reading comprehension skills with ready access to the school's online library with thousands of high-interest titles. They will refine their research skills and create portfolios through their online databases and their online classroom, Schoology. They will create Flipgrids and book talks for their literature circles. And they will (undoubtedly) teach ME about technologies they have discovered that will benefit the learning of all students in the class.
These Kindles will give my students the linguistic and technological foothold necessary to be successful in achieving their future goals.
