The materials I am requesting is an extension of a professional development that a coworker and I attended. Even living in Florida most of my students have never been to a beach much less to any mangrove flats. The University of Central Florida will be supplying us with an almost unlimited number of mangroves but we have to have an adequate place to grow them throughout the school year. The pond liner would be used in a location in an outdoor classroom we are currently building. There are already multiple lessons built around the idea of a mid-sized mangrove garden and other life that would be supported by this project.
The pond liner and solar pump will help my students better understand their local ecosystems and the power of the environment. This project will allow the students to see life springing forth under their own accord. It would allow them to understand the importance of Florida's natural habitat and how it affects them.
