Our students will use these magazines in many ways. First of all, since they are aligned to the NGSS standards, they will help to build background for our PBL projects. Each quarter we have a real world problem that our students attempt to solve with a culminating project. These projects include research and these magazines would be the perfect resource for this.
Also, we work tirelessly on how to answer questions using evidence. This is a yearlong effort and essential skill for our students in order to be successful in later years. These magazines have rich articles that set the stage for this type of writing.
Lastly, our students would benefit from having these magazines because they would be great reading practice. Since they are individual, students can keep their own issue to read and reread. They can take them home and essentially have their own magazine they can share with their siblings and parents. The learning wouldn't just happen in the classroom.
