Bean Bag Book Club is the aim of this project, to create a space where students are relaxed, and free to enjoy reading at school. At our school, we are encouraging students to read silently daily for 25 minutes in some of their classes or during independent time. I want to allow my students the opportunity to be part of a book club and meet in a fun, relaxing environment to discuss and read our monthly selected book. On a visit to another school, I saw a classroom where the students were totally engaged in reading and discussing books in their "bean bag corner" of the room. When I interviewed the students, they told me the best part of their day was when they could read and relax in that area. I want to bring that joy to my classroom for my upper grade students and encourage the joy of reading. Normally, you see areas like this in the younger classrooms, but I know my students in the upper grades would love to be able to chill out, read and relax in their own special place. I would love to be granted these bean bags to be able to create this area for my special students! I would also love to get magazines that are geared toward their interest.
