As the diversity and achievement gap are growing in our district, we are encouraging students to take more rigorous courses. I will be teaching AP US History and would like to not only challenge my students to help close the achievement gap through rigor, but also provide resources for them to make connections and see themselves in our history.
These requested resources will be used to enrich our curriculum through diverse primary and secondary sources. Students will be provided sources from various people to allow for multiple perspectives. Hopefully, these sources will fill some of the gaps of absent narratives in our history and allow students to find more of themselves in the US history curriculum.
The books will be providing the sources themselves and the document camera will be used to project the information as we work through these sources as a class. Specifically using the AP model, we will identify the main ideas/arguments, historical context, intended audience, point of view, and purpose.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
