In our classrooms next year, we would like your support in being able to offer flexible seating to our students. This entails getting rid of the age-old desks and replacing them with high top tables/stools, high top standing desks, pillows, futon/couch, wobble chairs, and other options directly meeting the children鈥檚 needs. In a school challenged daily by educating kids of poverty, we are often met with students who view school as a second or third priority due to unrelenting responsibilities at home far beyond their years. Presenting a classroom with flexible seating will create a more relaxed, welcoming, and 鈥渉ome-like鈥 feel to these children who need a safe haven from their everyday life. This environment will also meet the needs of all learning styles; those who need structure and those who need room to move about. Research shows that flexible seating classrooms have improved testing scores, student engagement in critical thinking, student collaboration, as well as communication. To fund the seating options in our classrooms, we are asking for your support, we hope that you would be willing to support us in the opportunity to enhance student learning in an engaging classroom environment.
