We live in a world of technology, where even the youngest of children are exposed to it for entertainment purposes. The power of educational technology can be used for enhancing student growth and creating a love of learning. At the National Kindergarten Teacher's Conference, I attended a workshop that focused on all of the educational applications and websites that many kindergarten students across the nation have access to which I have not been able to provide my students with.
I would like to bring technology access into my classroom and delight my students with the ways they can take charge of their own learning, as well as increase collaborative discovery with other children.
Having a set of eight Kindle Fire tablets will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is as a learning station which focuses on key skills in math (counting, number recognition) and literacy (such as learning sight words). Educational applications are able to differentiate learning for the highest achievers, as well as those needing extra intervention. Tablet technology will reinforce what I am teaching my students, as well as provide them with learning in a digital age.
