I am a school counselor at a smaller, rural elementary in Iowa. My students and families come from all different types of backgrounds, cultures and demographics. I have the luxury of being able to work with every student that walks through the doors of my school.
The floor seating and books that I am asking for will help my students with their social emotional learning when we are in small groups as well as individual sessions. While in the seated position, we will focus on mindfulness. We will focus on our breathing, the physical form of our bodies and we will be able to make a connection to our inner self. This is the practice of knowing, understanding and realizing the mind. When we practice mindfulness/yoga we are working on our abilities to concentrate, express ourselves better and overall help with frustrations, anxieties, and stress. This practice is something that will benefit all of my students.
