Our goal is to establish a flexible seating classroom environment within our middle school by removing stationary/standard desks from the classroom. Research has shown that students will benefit greater from a classroom environment that is both engaging and inspiring in order to foster and nurture creativity and innovation. Flexible seating will allow students to have more freedom in the classroom. They will be able to work collaboratively with peers while enhancing their creativity and taking ownership of their work. In doing so they will learn how to become problem-solvers and leaders. We would like to replace standard classroom desks with various seating styles; such as stools, yoga balls, gaming chairs, as well as including area rugs that will be usable workspace.
