I teach academically and intellectually gifted students at a school that is over 80% economically disadvantaged. I want my students to have access to STEM at an early age. They love thinking critically to solve issues. Research shows that when students are exposed to STEM at an earlier age, they are more likely to pursue STEM careers.
My goal is to integrate STEM into every literature unit that I teach. I need some more STEM tools in order to do that. For example, with first grade we read about bridges and I want students to be able to build their own bridge designs. The LEGOs and Keva Planks will be used for this project and so many more. There are ways to integrate these tools in all subject areas to make learning more meaningful and challenging.
