The goal of my project is to increase library circulation and get more books into the hands of reluctant readers. The school I serve has a high free and reduced lunch rate and our greatest area of academic concern is reading.
Thankfully, "research indicates that pleasure reading may
have a greater influence on a child鈥檚 overall academic performance than their socio-economic background" (e.g. Pearson, 2015).
I have requested a Cricut and additional supplies for sign making. The Cricut will allow me to make letters and decals for large signs to promote books and advertise reading promotions that are happening in the library. The Cricut is versitlie and has the ability to create signs that can stick to walls, windows, or even doors. My goal has always been to promote reading and interest in books wherever possible.
In a school with over 1000 students it can be difficult to reach everyone. By placing engaging signage throughout the school, students who may never venture down to the library on their own, may be enticed and inspired to check out something new in the library.
