In our foods class, students are placed in small groups where they apply multiple cooking techniques by preparing healthy foods in the kitchens. In each group students have all the equipment necessary for food preparation as well as staple ingredients, such as flour, sugar, salt, etc. Over the years, the canisters the students have used have melted, cracked or are missing lids and the oven mitts the students use are wearing out and have spots that do not protect students from the heat of the ovens.
These supplies will allow my students to continue participating in their kitchens with properly stocked ingredients and safety protection. The new canisters will allow our staple ingredients to to stay fresh in the kitchens so we meet proper sanitation standards. The new oven mitts will allow us to dispose of worn out oven mitts so students continue to stay as safe as possible in the kitchens and prevent burns.
