This project will allow the Title 1 students in my Kindergarten class to access academic curriculum through sensory activities. We use parent donations for the filler material, however the thematic supplies includes are what this project is funding.
Allowing Kindergarteners to touch and play with thematic materials opens them up to greater academic growth. The sensory bins combine a sensory filler: such as beans, rice, sand, etc; thematic objects: animals, plants and people; and curricular skills: such as letter recognition, short vowels, sorting, classifying and mathematical operations. Connecting students to curriculum through play is proven to increase learning and growth.
