We finally get to come back to the classroom in-person, full-time! I am so excited for my students to get rebuild relationships that were put on hold last year. Each child had a different experience last year, and for many there will need to be healing as we put the security of school back in place for them. Art can provide a healthy venue for this social-emotional learning need. Through art, students are able to express themselves, process their emotions, and problem solve. Students who participate regularly in art have stronger social skills, less anxiety, and fewer cases of aggression. As my students transition back to in-person learning, they need art more than ever. The supplies I'm requesting will help fill this need. In the first few weeks alone, we can ease tensions and open communication by creating mood-art, self portraits, and representations of our culture. Basics like watercolors, pastels, and clay will be used throughout the year to integrate art into our curriculum. With your support, art will help my students readjust to in-person learning and have a successful year together!
