Flexible seating has been shown to help students focus in class and not be restricted by the traditional classroom furniture. I want my students to have a choice in the types of seats that they choose to fit their specific needs. Some students benefit from having traditional seating but it is becoming increasingly more common for students to thrive in the classroom when allowed different styles of seats that allow for movement and for the students to get their wiggles out. Additionally, flexible seating is helpful for active and hyper students who need to move around. Instead of these students moving around and getting in trouble, they will be able to channel their energy through the movement of their chair and not disturb other students.
The different types of seating will encourage responsibility and accountability with students finding the type of seating that will allow for them to learn and move in beneficial ways.
I am requesting three to four of each type of chair because my students sit in collaborative groups of three or four. Having three or four of the same type of chair will allow for students to continue to sit at same height tables and work together with other. These chairs will not only help my classroom transition into a modern classroom but help individual students learn. My students will learn responsibility in that these chairs are not toys but instead are tools to help them. There will be accountability in taking care of the chairs so they last for years and also choosing the chair for the learning benefits and not for bouncing around the classroom.
I need your support to help make this flexible and productive classroom a reality. Thank you!
