As we emerge from the pandemic, it is important that we re-engage our students. Our STEM students get excited about school when they apply their creativity to projects. We want to update our STEM activities. When we returned from the pandemic, the drone batteries stopped working. We had been relying on students to connect the drones to their phones. some students missed out because they did not have a phone. The requested Samsung tablets, drone batteries, and propellor protector guards will enable all of our students to experience drone coding. In our class, we use scroll saws to build wood toys. We want our students to be able to sand and paint their toys. We have requested 2 mouse sanders, sandpaper, dust respirators, and dust particulate filters so the students can safely sand their projects to perfection. We are also requesting LED lights and a weather station with humidity and temperature sensor for the paint booth. The students will be able to see well as they paint. They will be able to monitor the appropriate temperature and humidity for painting. We are also requesting Walnut Hollow wood-burning pens. We are so excited to have our students unleash their creativity as they create wood-burned signs. Our STEM class includes students from 5-8th grade. We have a supermajority of urban, free and reduced lunch, and ELL students. The resources from this grant will allow our students to create wood-burned signs, Code and fly Tello drones, sand, and paint various wood projects. These personalized, creative projects will help students re-engage with learning.
