Four years ago I began reading, researching, and purchasing supplies to have a flexible seating classroom. I did my research and read articles and studies that spoke to the benefits of flexible seating in the elementary school classroom. In the spring of 2016, I began switching out seats in my classroom with flexible seating options such as exercise balls, stability cushions, short stools, tall stools, and more. I started my 2016-17 school year with a classroom full of flexible seating options purchased with classroom and personal funds- it was awesome! I have found that my students appreciate the choice of seating, that it gives them a voice and autonomy in their learning. However, after three years of use the exercise balls are losing air, the cushions have holes, and the short stools are no longer functional. This project is to fund new and improved seating options. Each item chosen was given careful consideration based on my experience of years of using flexible seating.
