My choices for this project are centered around my students' ability to work collaboratively to achieve their academic as well as their social & emotional goals.
Th furniture I have selected will provide alternative seating and working areas in my classroom! The expectation for our youngest learners is high! I would like to provide them with computer tables which are made for children to work alone or collaboratively with others. I want them to be able to reach the SmartBoard by providing a safe step, which can also be used as a bench when we are not learning on the Smart Board. I would like to be able to adjust the height of tables so students can sit on cushions on the floor, on wobble stools, on traditional chairs or even stand.
I have worked for 17 years in kindergarten, and I have seen students who are on task and learning fall out of their chairs because they are trying to rock chairs not made to rock, or kneeling on chairs made for sitting. My goal is to provide my kids with opportunities to move as much as they need to, with plenty of choices for work areas, as long as they continue to learn without interfering with their own learning or the learning of others.
