My 6th grade students are eager to engage in hands-on science activities, and are desperate to use technology. Most of them come from homes where technology is not a part of their daily lives. I utilize the resources that I have available, but our school just cannot support funding technology in a way that enables my students to become functional 21st century learners. When I incorporate the few chromebooks that the school has into my science class, the students thrive. They use them in stations, do their own research, web quests, take quizzes, and participate in whole class activities. I have a very diverse population, and my newcomers and ESL students benefit greatly from using the chromebooks.
Additionally, we are hoping to work with NC State university students who will come to my classroom to teach coding and applying scientific principles at the same time, but we need the chromebooks in place first.
