Children sometimes need a place to calm down and have time to their selves. This calming space will provide the students a place where they can go and calm down, they can go and choose to sit in a bean bag chair or a comfy couch with a canopy and still be able to feel a part of the classroom. They can choose a quite place and calm down then be able to join us when they have calmed down. We are requesting bean bags, cushions and more. Right now in my classroom I have to send my students who need to calm down to another classroom and they are missing out on instructional time in the classroom, by having this in my classroom, the students will not have to leave and can still hear what is going on in the classroom.
A student who needs to calm down, can go to the calming corner and still feel a part of the classroom. When the Covid 19 pandemic first arrived, my students were not even in school yet. They have had to adjust to coming to school everyday and being away form their parents and their safe place at home. I believe having a calming space for my students will help them feel more comfortable at school.
