Our middle school is located in a suburban area and serves a diverse population of students between sixth and eighth grades. 43% of our learners are English language learners. They respond very well to lessons where they are actively involved in their own learning because they are building life experiences to which they can anchor their learning, making it more relevant. Rich experiences like our Medieval Festival excite the students about learning world history because they create their own presentations and invite other grade levels as guests. They have consulted local community leaders and business owners about the math and engineering involved in creating some of the props for the festival. They applied for and interviewed for each job involved in the project.
