Having a wide selection of books with characters who are deaf or hard of hearing will reinforce, teach, and encourage my diverse group of students with hearing loss.
These books will help them learn from the characters and their experiences to develop their self-identity and self-advocacy skills and embrace their uniqueness.
Books will be read aloud to the younger students, and to their class, if they choose. Older students will each choose a book to read, and share insights with a small group (in person or virtually), and how they relate to the stories. This will enable them to form relationships with others who "get them" like people with normal hearing never will.
