Because many of my students come from so many diverse backgrounds, and the fact that they live in such a rural area with limited resources, these kids don't get to experience much outside of their community. So many of the children that sit in my classroom everyday are absolutely brilliant and I want them to get excited about science and STEAM. I want these kids to one day help their community and do something great! Our new science curriculum provides tons of stem activities and hands-on lab investigations, but we do not have the funding or resources to buy the items outside of what is provided by the curriculum. I thought by having lab coats, not only could the students keep their clothes clean, but it would give them a sense of importance and responsibility. I tell my kids every time we enter our "lab" that everyone of them is a scientist. I want them to look the part and feel the part, too!
