I am very blessed to teach a group of well-rounded and diverse students who are truly excited about learning. They come to school curious and full of questions, and eager to participate. Our school is a safe, happy establishment and students are happy to be here. It is truly a great place to live and work. However, we are not a Title 1 or a turnaround school. We do not receive sizable bonuses for classroom supplies and technology. In fact, even though we are in a middle-class neighborhood, this school is the most low-tech, low-funds place I have worked at. It is almost as if we are punished for being average instead of struggling.
I cannot complain at all though, because I know the grants and funding belong with schools that need it most -- but it will not stop me from using my own means to acquire supplies that my students can benefit from for years to come.
