I see a definite impact on students scores and their ability. If the students were able to test with a tool that they were more familiar with we would see a drastic improvement in skills and their want to learn. With much of technology going to touch screen and these kids growing up in that generation it makes it easier to do assessments in a familiar media.
These devices will be used in many ways.
One, of the uses of the devices will be for district and progress monitoring testing. The students are tested three times per year. Beginning, middle and end of the year. These tests can seem very challenging for some students that do not have experience using a mouse. Most of my students technology experience is through the use of tables and cell phones that are touch screen. This will help to improve our scores with a more accurate picture of what the kids know.
There are many learning apps that are available through the app store that are excellent resources for both math and reading. The ipads would also be used as an additional listening and gaming center during work stations for math and ELAR.
