I have created a weightlifting class/club to keep students healthy and moving after school. I teach at-risk students who need healthy alternatives after school to stay off the streets and engaged in healthy and meaningful alternatives. TRX bands are needed and will be set up in an area in the weightroom, outside or anywhere that can be set up to allow them to use them. They are so effective, easy to use, portable for every student to use.
I really need more equipment to accommodate all the students and not turn any away. My program is growing daily, and I don’t want to turn kids away because of lack of equipment. I am making boot camp style stations to be able to have more kids participate. With the use of TRX bands, it will allow me to use minimal space but accommodate students without heavy weights. TRX bands are great for stretching, weights, strength, plyometrics and can meet the needs of my diverse students.
It is also important to make sure kids find fitness fun – if children grow up associating working out with being something enjoyable and clearly seeing the benefits to their bodies and health, then they are more likely to keep fitness as a priority throughout their lives.
Although they would complain about how hard the TRX bands are, they love it and we need more. One band is hard in a big class. Even though the bands make them sore they continued to enjoy the physicality of the class. Many students who normally would not be engaged in physical activity were finding themselves enjoying being physically active.
