Our school is an inner-city school with over 70% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and living below the poverty line. My students are 9th and 10th graders who have pushed themselves academically, and are currently taking an advanced English class, as well as many other rigorous classes. Most students have ambitions to go on to graduate with an IB diploma and attend college. For many, they will be the first member of their families to earn a college degree.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many have overcome amazing obstacles to get to where they are today, many others are continuing to face such obstacles daily. Despite these barriers, these students are invested in their education, and pushing themselves to be better readers, writers and students every day.
