My students are having a hard time adjusting to sitting still all day and staying focused in the classroom. The flexible seating options I have chosen will allow them to fidget and wiggle while they stay seated. The fitness balls allow students to gently bounce and change position and are much more comfortable than the plastic chairs. The chair bands will help students tap their feet quietly, without distracting others. I have also chosen some microphones that allow me to provide language specific translation to students, at their computer, in real time. I also provide translated versions of my worksheets and keeping them organized by language will be much easier with the cubby shelf.
In my classroom the focus is first on students feeling comfortable and welcome, so that they are willing to take intellectual risks, to follow their ideas to their conclusion, and embrace being wrong as an essential part of growth and learning. I achieve this in part by decorating my classroom with images and models of Earth and Space, as well as by giving my student the freedom to be themselves. I have the best kids and they deserve to study in an environment that feels comfortable, and safe.
