I am looking to add a variety of fidget toys and sensory stations to our everyday classroom. Not only will this help ease student tension, but it will allow them to remain on task and absorb information efficiently. We are also looking to add flexible seating options in the classroom. I want to encourage my students to do what helps them to learn to the best of their ability. I don't want to FORCE all of my students to sit on the carpet or in their seats because that is not always as easy as it seems.
What's fair is not always equal! In the past year, I have really learned that one way of doing things is not what works best for each student. You don't give bandaids to all of your students, only the ones with a cut. Not everyone needs a wheelchair, only those with mobility issues. We need to accommodate to our students, not the other way around. By providing them with flexible seating options, the students are more likely to stay engaged in the task at hand.
