My name is Kelley Littlefield. I am a science teacher at Troy Howard Middle School in the mid-coast town of Belfast, Maine. I teach earth science to 6th graders and life science to 7th and 8th on the Ecology Academy. A lovely garden, a commercial sized greenhouse, acres of woods and trails, and the work we do to maintain it all gives students access to an experiential education based on ecological principles and stewardship, as well as an education rooted in learning standards. We also exercise ecological principles as stewards of our school building and community - we run a school recycling and composting program to reduce and reuse waste, and grow and harvest produce for our school kitchen and school vegetable stand.
