Every day my students come to class ready to learn and participate in every aspect of class. This new elective has opened the eyes of many students who now see failure as another opportunity to try again. It has motivated students that once were not motivated to learn and want to learn. I have many waiting at my door before school, come in during lunch and stay after when they can.
My students come from a rural, SW Missouri town where we have a small but growing ethnically diverse population and several of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, many of them are on free or reduced lunch; however, they enjoy learning about science, math, engineering, and technology (STEM). My school is a middle school with about 1200 total students. My school has implemented Project Lead the Way, which is a nationally known STEM-based program that delivers a activity, problem, project based curriculum.
