My students are from a rural area in Person County, North Carolina. They often come from single parent families and/or often live with grandparents as their guardians. Most students fall into the lower socioeconomic status often struggling to make ends meet. They are full of energy and dreams. They enjoy science and love to take part in science lab experiments. They work well as collaborative groups and tend to get along well despite their differences in race and socioeconomomic background. They love school but often come unprepared due to a lack of funds available at home to purchase their necessary items.
