My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in a special education essential reading class. We come from a low socioeconomic area where 74% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and approximately 37% of our students receive reading remediation. When given the tools and the opportunity, these students rise to the challenge and work hard to meet the expectations and goals not only that I have set for them, but also ones they have set for themselves.
