I teach 23 kindergarten children in a high-poverty area of New Mexico. Our school is Title I, and our student population receives 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and have never been in a school setting before.
My students are creative, artistic and excited to learn. Every day my students come to school with an excitement and passion to learn new things. We sit together each day to share our ideas, encourage each other and learn. My students use the group meeting area each morning to begin their day, share experience and learn new things. Our budget crisis in New Mexico is a severe and seemingly endless disaster for public education. Money for basic supplies is dwindling, leaving the possibility of getting needed furnishings out of the question. My students are very eager learners, who beg to be read to, work together and learn each day.
