Students spend so much time in front of electronic devices, have short attention spans and are entering a world full of interactive technology. My school has limited access for students to technology. An interactive whiteboard or Smartboard is not financially feasible. A smart TV is an affordable alternative by providing a place for viewing videos and movies, but also will access the internet, display presentations and allow for interactive student participation in the form of educational aps and games (game-show style test reviews are a favorite in my class). I need to engage the disengaged. This piece of technology will be an invaluable tool that will accomplish this. My classes are comprised of all different types and levels of learners. The Smart TV, based on the research I have done, will provide opportunities for students who are not tuned in to lectures or group work, but will focus on a video and be more likely to contribute via an electronic format. I use all different mediums in my class to hook my students. As a world history teacher, the amount of interactive and digital material that I could be using would increase my ability to connect more students with history and learning. It can be fun and relate to their lives! Due to the low quality of my current projector, students struggle with analyzing documents, paintings, photographs and other projections I would like to use for analysis. Having this piece of technology in my class will encourage learning, save time and materials (copies!) and create new opportunities for student interaction with each other and history.
