My students are 2nd graders in a small school with an even tinier budget. Many are English learners and almost all qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite the challenges they face growing up in a low income neighborhood, my students come to school eager to learn. As part of our school family, they are expected to play an active role in their own learning. In return our staff strives to provide for them, as best we can, as many of the same opportunities their counterparts in wealthier communities enjoy.
As budgets have dwindled, this has become increasingly difficult, but we persevere to give our students the best learning environment as possible. Our school family is proud to have been recognized as both a Title I Achieving School and a California Distinguished School. These awards serve as evidence that when given the opportunity and the support they need, our students can and will rise to meet our expectations.
